Great choice. I've owned them for about a month 1/2 from the time of writing, and enjoy the clarity, durability, and features these headphones provide.

Mostly price. I wanted to keep it below $100. Another reason is that most of the noise canceling headphones need batteries to power them. And I read with a lot of models that if the batteries die, not only will the noise canceling not work, neither will the regular headphones.

But all the noise canceling headphones we're out of my price range so I didn't research it too heavily.

I've had the Sony's for almost a month now and I've been extremely pleased with them.

What made you want to avoid noise canceling headphones? I recently tried out the Bose Quiet Comfort 3s and the clarity is quite remarkable.

Of course, they are more than 3x the price of the Sony pair you bought, so I haven't taken the plunge either.
